“It wasn’t me.”

One of my readers couldn’t believe that “They don’t pay me enough” was a good enough reason to steal.

Well, apparently it is. Not only is it a common rationalization in these tough economic times, but it happens to all types of businesses.

A manger of a gourmet food chain at a mall told me that he has a video camera on the cash register.  Once he has an employee on film stealing money, and the passcode on the register is proven to be theirs, he confronts the employee.

Yet they still deny it saying, “It wasn’t me. And besides, you don’t pay me enough.”

I asked my friend, “Well that’s an unusual case, right?” He said, “Unfortunately, it happens all the time.”

What can we do?  You tell me. I’d love to hear your ideas.
